The men and women of Hillsborough County serve as the guardians and caretakers of our community and share a mutual mission and commitment of improving the lives of the citizens of Hillsborough County.
For many years, Hillsborough County Fire Fighters have openly and passionately advocated for a long-term commitment to the Fire Rescue Master Plan. The Firefighter’s position on this matter remains steadfast. We intend to be a dynamic and prominent advocate for change in this area of public safety.
Become a hero! Join with us to shape and determine Hillsborough County's future. The “Minutes Matter” video is the first step in our endeavor.
This map provides a visual representation of a rapidly growing population, an increased number of emergency calls, a shortfall in fire stations and emergency equipment, longer response times and extended offload times at facilities. The open areas highlighted in light-yellow are where units can respond to an incident within 5 minutes. High density points in the urban and suburban areas that are outside the 5 minute window are shown as darker dots.
Due to the manner in which the growth, building and population have occurred there are large swathes of Hillsborough County that fall outside the guidelines for controlling fire extension and reducing property damage and injuries.
This property acquisition will allow the Lake Magdalene Fire Station #52 to be built to modern standards, providing adequate room for fire trucks to enter and exit the station in a safe, time sensitive way, and ensure optimal health and safety measures for the fire fighters.
The new station will reduce response times to residents in the Lake Magdalene community and nearby communities. In 2022, firefighters responded to over 6,000 calls in the Lake Magdalene area.
The area represented in the red oval is the coverage area that Station 52 will service. The purple dots in the red oval represent residents that are outside the optimal 5-minute “TRAVEL“ response time for a fire suppression response.
With the addition of this station the community will be better served and it can have the affect of lowering ISO ratings, which can lower home insurance premiums.
SUCCESS. Thanks to all that participated in making this a priority for the community.
This property acquisition will allow the Gunn Highway Fire Station #13 to be built to modern standards, providing adequate room for fire trucks to enter and exit the station in a safe, time sensitive way, and ensure optimal health and safety measures for the fire fighters.
The new station will reduce response times to residents in the Citrus Park community and nearby communities.
Hillsborough County is the fourth-most populous county in Florida. In the last twenty-one (21) years the population of Hillsborough County increased on average by 1.34% per year, which represents twenty thousand (20,000) and up to twenty-five thousand (25,000) new residents moving into the County each year. This infusion of people has created a demand for housing, employment, and transportation. Despite all the growth and demand elsewhere, during this same time, Hillsborough County Fire Rescue had one (1) additional station built to service sixty-one thousand (61,000) new residents.

The data collected from the last twenty-one (21) years show the additional burden being shouldered by Fire Rescue. The emergency responses increased on average by four percent (4%) per year, which represents three thousand six hundred (3,600) additional calls each year. During this same time of growth and demand, Hillsborough County Fire Rescue had one (1) station built for to service the additional emergency calls.

In cases, of heart failure serious injury can occur within three (3) to six (6) minutes and the risk of death increases exponentially afterwards. Other citations, state in the cases of respiratory failure brain damage and tissue damage begins around four (4) minutes. After ten (10) minutes, irreversible brain damage occurs and the chances of survival are virtually impossible. Finally, in cases of uncontrolled bleeding, again “Minutes Matter”. With no intervention a person can bleed out as quickly as five (5) minutes. All of these scenarios leave very small windows of opportunity to make a difference.
HCFR still has work to do to meet its goal for Fire Response. The only way to reduce response times is to shorten the distance between the calling point and the responding point. Hillsborough County needs more stations.
ISO’s PPC has an effect on the process insurance underwriters use to evaluate properties. It is used as a part of the decision matrix for coverages and premiums on both personal and commercial properties.
Lowering the ISO may result in a savings of up to 10% - 20% or higher in insurance premiums for Hillsborough citizens and businesses. Studies have shown insurance rates drop for both commercial and Hillsborough homeowner’s properties.
